Policy on Academic Probation

Active graduate students are either "in good standing" or are on "academic probation".

ACADEMIC PROBATION

The following comes from the GSAS Policies and Procedures site,  http://www.nyu.edu/fas/gap/gsas/termination.html

Academic Probation. If academic performance falls below either the Graduate School or departmental standard, students are automatically placed on academic probation. Departments are required to provide certified written notification to the students of their probationary status as soon as possible. The notification must inform students of the grounds for this determination and the specific steps that must take to return to good standing. The students must be informed of the exact performance criteria that will be imposed and the means by which the students' performance will be evaluated. Students will have until the end of the next complete semester following the date of the probation letter in which to meet the criteria set by the departments. Students on probation are not eligible for waivers of Maintenance of Matriculation Fees.
