Is an audition required in order to major or minor in Music?
No. Further, there is no preformance component required for the Music major or minor. Four credits of performance, however, may be applied toward the major or minor.

Does the CAS Department of Music offer music lessons?
No. If you are interested in taking lessons, please contact the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions in the Steinhardt School of Education.

How do I enroll in one of the department's music theory courses (Harmony & Counterpoint I-IV)?
If you are interested in beginning the Harmony & Counterpoint sequence, please contact Jairo Moreno, our Director of Undergraduate Studies at jm199@nyu.edu. All four courses in this sequence (Harmony and Counterpoin I-IV) are required for the Music major.

Does the Department of Music offer "concentrations"?
No. Music majors and minors are required to take courses in Music History, Ethnomusicology and Theory. Students may, however, use their elective courses to concentrate in one area (Music History, Ethnomusicology, or Composition and Analysis).
