Bill Bahng Boyer (www.billtron.org) holds a BMus in theory and composition from Northwestern University and an MA from the University of California San Diego, where he studied with George Lewis in the critical studies/experimental practices program.  His master's thesis covered discourses of musical experimentalism on the US-Mexico border. At UCSD, under the auspices of the National Geographic Society Education Foundation, Bill co-founded the Mapping the Beat: A Geography Through Music Curriculum for upper elementary school, which integrates geography and music instruction into a single body of lesson plans. At NYU, Bill has worked with Jason Stanyek to create Sonic Culture New York, an interactive online repository of ethnographic recordings. His dissertation research explores the creative and political potential of public listening practices and technoculture in New York.  Bill currently plays the Chinese sanxian in HappyFunSmile and lives in Kings County.
