Project Task #1: Manual Tagging

Due Tuesday February 11, before class. Please email your results to michal.starke@nyu.edu

This first project task is to acquaint you with the situation that many child language researchers are in: having to tag a text manually, often with incomplete linguistic knowledge or information.

The file to be tagged is here. It contains only the target child, so please tag every word in that file.

Your answer should consist of: (i) the tagged file, (ii) the exact time it took you to tag the whole file, (iii) a list of words that created problems, or remarks on your problems with tags. (Please send the tagged file as a text file, not a Microsoft Word file or such. If you use the latter, simply choose "Save as" and then "text")

You do not need to align your tags with the words, this is perfectly fine:

chi: the beautiful truck disappeared

d adj n v.ed

Note that I cut the file so that you can finish this in a reasonable amount of time. Do not spend more than 3 hours tagging. If you reach 3h and still haven't finished the file, stop there, leave the rest of the file untagged, and report your tagging time as 3h.
