My research interests are in syntax, particularly those aspects of syntax which interface with semantics. In recent years, I have been examinining the nature of elliptical constructions in English and have begun comparing them in other languages, and the nature of predication that is relevant to natural language syntax. I am also interested in the syntactic aspects of lexical representation.
My publications include: "A Landing Site Theory of Movement Rules", Linguistic Inquiry, Vol. 13, No. 1 (1982); "Do Antecedent-Contained Deletions Exist?", Linguistic Inquiry, Vol. 18, No. 4; "Heads and Projections", in M. Baltin & A. Kroch, eds., Alternative Conceptions of Phrase-Structure, University of Chicago Press (1989); "Floating Quantifiers, PRO, and Predication", Linguistic Inquiry, Vol. 26, No. 2 (1995); "A-Movements", in M. Baltin & C. Collins, eds., Handbook of Contemporary Syntactic Theory, Blackwell & Sons
