TIPS FOR APPLICANTS

To minimize delays in the processing of your complete applications, please follow these guidelines:

1. We strongly prefer that you apply online, and also submit as many as possible of your supporting documents online, including personal statement, writing sample, resumé or CV, and letters of recommendation.

2. Be sure that any materials that are sent in by regular mail (including transcripts and letters of recommendation) are clearly marked with your name and identifying information, so that they can be matched up with your online application.

3. Apply as early as possible; particularly avoid the January 4 crush.

4. Be sure the application and all supporting materials are RECEIVED BY the deadline date (not postmarked by); leave sufficient time for delays in the mail.

If you apply by mail, be sure to:

1. Sign the application form.

2. Mail all materials together in one envelope, including letters of recommendation and academic transcripts.

3. Clearly print your name, social security number, and date of birth on the top of every separate page included in the application materials.

Finally, please remember to use the proper address for anything sent by mail or express mail services. Failure to use the correct address will result in lost or delayed mail. In particular, note that the U.S. postal service does not deliver to NYU's street address - it only delivers to NYU's P.O. Box. Conversely, express mail services do not deliver to P.O. Boxes.

All applications and credentials should be mailed as follows:

If the U.S. postal service is used:

    New York University
Graduate School of Arts and Science
    Graduate Enrollment Services
    P.O. Box 907
    New York, New York 10276-0907

If an express mail service such as Federal Express, DHL, United Parcel Service, or another company is used (or if the application is being delivered by hand):

    New York University
Graduate School of Arts and Science
    Graduate Enrollment Services
    One-half Fifth Avenue
    New York, New York 10003
