Guidelines

The following guidelines may help you in preparing your NWAV presentation. Please let us know at nwav34@nyu.edu if you have any questions that are not addressed here.

We are pleased to announce that we are offering two student prizes at NWAV 34:

  • The Cambridge University Press Student Paper Prize
  • The Charles A. Ferguson Student Poster Prize

Note that in order to be considered for these prizes, student presenters must notify us that they are students. If you did not do this on your registration form, please contact Philipp Angermeyer. Joint-presentation between students and faculty are eligible for the prize only if the majority of the work is the student's, and the faculty played a supervisory role.

Paper Presentation Guidelines

NWAV papers are 20 minutes with a 5-minute question/answer period to follow. Please ensure that your paper will not exceed this allotted time. We have to be strict about these time allotments since audience members often shift between talks within sessions. If you plan on using handouts in your talk, we recommend that you make approximately 60 copies.

Each of the session rooms is equipped with the following equipment:

  • Data Projector
  • Overhead Projector
  • Video Projector
  • Sound System
  • Chalkboard/Dry-Erase Board

All of your equipment needs should have been submitted with your abstract. If you have additional equipment needs, please notify Simanique Moody as soon as possible. Also, please note that we will not be providing laptop computers for all NWAV speakers. We will have a couple extra laptops for emergencies. If you need a computer and cannot bring your own to NWAV, please notifySimanique Moody immediately. Finally, for technical reasons, our data projectors are not compatible with iBooks (though they are with PCs and other Macs). If you were planning on using an iBook, please contact Simanique.

Poster Guidelines

The board to which the posters will be attached is 32 inches wide by 40 inches long. Please size your posters accordingly. Also, if you plan to have handout, we recommend you make 60 copies.

If you decide to have your poster printed in New York rather than bring it with you, we have compiled some information regarding pricing and turnaround times from local printing shops:

Unique Copy Center

(walking distance to our conference site) is offering a discounted price for NWAV participants:

  • Matte Stock $7.00/sq. ft. (Estimated price for 32" x 40" poster: about $63)
  • Glossy Stock $7.50/sq. ft. (Estimated price for 32" x 40" poster: about $67)

October turn around time is around 3 days. Presenters therefore must email their files to Unique Copy Center at least 3 days in advance of picking up the poster. If presenters decided to print with Unique Copy Center, when they place their email order, they must ask for Rick, the contact person, for the NYU discount of $50/$58 per poster. Also, presenters are recommended to call Unique Copy Center after sending the file to confirm the arrangements and verify the discounted rate.
