A Walking Tour of Jackson Heights

Jackson Heights, a largely residential neighborhood in northern Queens, is considered the most culturally and linguistically diverse neighborhood in New York City. Since its development, beginning in 1909 with the completion of the Queensboro Bridge, Jackson Heights has grown to be a bustling neighborhood of historic garden homes, restaurants, cafes and shops.

Jackson Heights is home to both the largest South Asian as well as South American communities in New York. Of the 900,000 residents of Jackson Heights, over 56% were born outside of the United States. Substantial Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Argentinean and Colombian communities all call Jackson Heights home.

On this walking tour, we will explore the ways in which these different communities all live together in one of New York's most historic and cherished neighborhoods. This tour will take approximately 230 minutes, including subway travel time to and from Jackson Heights (approx. 30 minutes each way) and a break for lunch. The tour will start and finish at NYU's Kimmel Center.
