concentrating on Language and Literature; Language, Society, and Culture; Francophone
Studies; Romance Languages; or French and Linguistics. As part of these programs, the department sponsors internships
in education, journalism, publishing, and international relations.
Undergraduates taking French find an intellectually stimulating
and congenial atmosphere in which to pursue their studies. Members
of the department are readily accessible to discuss students'
special interests and career plans. Le Cercle Français and informal conversation groups held at La Maison Française afford opportunities for social and cultural interaction. The
Department of French is proud of the number of undergraduates
who have been elected to Pi Delta Phi, the national French Honor
Society. More than 1,000 students, including some 70 majors, are
normally engaged in undergraduate study within the Department
of French each semester.
