Activities and Awards

The department houses a chapter of the Pi Delta Phi national honors society. In addition, the department awards six prizes annually for excellence in French: the Germaine Brée Prize, the Bernard Garniez Prize and the Michelle Lapautre Prix d'Excellence.

In addition to the basic requirements for the major, students also have the opportunity to participate in internships sponsored by the Department of French. The best starting point in the French embassy's website. Recent internships have been completed at Cultural Services of the French Embassy office, the French Music office, the French Film Office and the French Government Tourist Office. Other opportunities exist overseas including internships through The French-American Chamber of Commerce and the Claude Monet Foundation at Giverny.
