Greeting from the President of the IFA Alumni Association

Dear friends,

One of the goals of the Alumni Association of the Institute of Fine Arts is to keep each of us abreast of the activities of the many friends and acquaintances we made when we were students. To that end, we invite all of you to keep us informed about your professional accomplishments by responding to our annual call for biographical updates. This “Alumni News” is published in the annual IFA Alumni Newsletter. We also ask that you let Kathleen M. Heins at the I.F.A. know of your change of address, geographical or electronic, by linking to ifa.alumni@nyu.edu. And please do help us with the list of “lost alumni” that appears in each issue of the Newsletter. These are mostly individuals who have moved without letting us know of their new address. With your help, they need not be “lost” at all!

Besides the Newsletter, the Alumni Association offers other occasions that enable us to keep in touch with each other, notably our annual meeting at the CAA Conference, and the yearly presentation by an alumna/alumnus of the distinguished W.S. Cook Lecture. We hope to see you at either one or both of these events.

Equally important is the Alumni Association’s continued support of current I.F.A. students through fellowships. The association manages the Rosenwald Fund and the Altman Fund that generate grant money (and we invite further such memorial gifts that keep on giving), and the Alumni Fund. The latter depends solely on yearly contributions from all of us. The director of the I.F.A., Dr. Mariët Westermann, issues an annual appeal for funds, and the Alumni Association seconds the request with a reminder from Allen Rosenbaum, our treasurer. Of course, you need not wait for these solicitations to make an annual donation. Click here, and you will be linked to an online site that easily enables you to make a donation toward the financial aid so crucial to graduate students living in New York City. The I.F.A. gave us all a lot, and we really should give back, each according to our means.

The Alumni Association does other things, too, such as conducting a series of interviews with past faculty and students, gathered with an eye toward a future publication of the history of the I.F.A., or donating the occasional gift such as reading lamps for the Stephen Chan Library.
