Sheer Realities consists of approximately 90 items including clothing, accessories, paintings, lithographs, drawings, and photographs that help elucidate the complex interaction between external and indigenous cultural influences in the Philippines over the past century. Guest curator Marian Pastor Roces, a recognized independent scholar of Philippine textiles and costumes, uses nineteenth-century clothing to explore notions of identity, modernity, and nationalism.
