These nail care products, with their simple geometric design, emphasize the therapeutic benefits of cosmetics. In the 1930s women—in both Japan and the West—had just begun to color their nails with enamels. More common were the cake and powder polishes used to buff the nails, which increased blood circulation and lent a transparent or tinted gloss.
