VIDEO:

1993 PORTRAITS 2 minutes

VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS:

·PORTRAITS parlé´silence 1992

·PORTRAITS spoken silence 1992

The persons are invited to answer the question "what do you think about yourself?" The final installation is made out of two screens side by side: on the left one is the moment when the people are speaking, on the right the moment of silence, hesitation and thinking.

PRESENTATION: 2 video projections side by side, 4 meters wide each

·PORTRAITS 2 minutes 1993

Ten persons sit in front of the camera unaware of what will happen. I then start shooting a close up shot of their faces. I don't give any explanations, the models, after a while and some discomfort, understand that nothing will happen. Each portrait lasts two minutes.

PRESENTATION: on a monitor

·PORTRAITS couples 1995

Ten couples are invited to stand in front of the camera, unaware of what will happen. Then I shoot a medium shot of them without giving any explanations. Each shot lasts one minute and a half.

PRESENTATION: video projection 4 meters wide at base

·PORTRAITS 15 minutes 1995

I have asked 24 persons to film them for fifteen minutes in a row. Each person chooses the place and the time of shooting. It is strictly a close-up shot of their faces.

The spectator is free to choose one tape from the 24 displayed, according to the first and last names which appear on the tape covers.

PRESENTATION: a monitor, VCR, 24 tapes

·PORTRAITS histoires 1994

·PORTRAITS stories 1994

Seven persons tell a personal story in front of the camera. Once the telling is over, I ask them to repeat the story a second time, then a third time, and so on until they refuse to repeat it once again.

PRESENTATION: seven monitors are displayed along a specific track. Each monitor shows only the same person.

·PORTRAITS play back 1995

·PORTRAITS lip singing 1995

Seven persons are invited to "lip sing" in front of a still camera to a song they have chosen. They are shot in a familiar setting (often their home).

PRESENTATION: video projection, 4 meters wide at base
