GROUP VISITS

Guided Tours

The Grey Art Gallery offers guided tours of its current exhibitions led by NYU student docents. Tours normally introduce an entire exhibition and last approximately one hour, including time for questions and discussion. Upon request, tours may be customized to suit specific needs.

Scheduling a Tour:
Guided tours are available to groups of 10 or more people. Large groups (more than 25 people) may require two docents. When you telephone, please be prepared to tell us:

1. Name of your school and department or organization/group.

2. Title or subject of the class (if any).

3. Number of people attending.

4. Day of week, calendar date, and time of day you are requesting.

5. Your name and your affiliation with your class or other group.

6. Your full street address, daytime telephone number, and e-mail address.

Please telephone 212/998-6780 to reserve your tour at least two weeks in advance. (The Grey does not discuss or accept group reservations via email.) Once your tour is scheduled on our calendar, we will send you confirmation by mail.

Group Admission Fee: $3.00 per person, payable in cash or in one check upon arrival at the gallery.

Please note: Group tours are free of charge for NYU students, faculty, and staff; other matriculated college students; and New York City K-12 school groups.


Self-Guided Tours

The Grey Art Gallery also welcomes self-guided group tours with payment of Group Admission Fee. Please telephone us in advance for a required group reservation.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer Internships

NYU students are invited to apply for the Grey Art Gallery’s volunteer internships, which offer valuable experience in the everyday workings of a university art museum. Tasks may include assisting with research for exhibitions, cataloguing works of art, helping with publicity, working on the Grey’s website, and giving gallery talks.Please note: Grey Art Gallery internships are reserved for students who are currently enrolled at NYU or accepted for a future term at NYU’s New York City campus.Term and hours are flexible. If an intern’s NYU department offers academic credit for internships, we are glad to work with them in fulfilling the requirements. To apply, please send a current resume accompanied by a cover letter summarizing your past experience in the field of art and your plans for the future, along with an explanation of why you would like to intern at the Grey Art Gallery in particular. Please note: We strongly recommend visiting the gallery’s current exhibition and exploring this web site before writing the cover letter.

Graduate Assistantship

NYU Institute of Fine Arts students are invited to apply for the Grey’s annual Graduate Assistantship. Graduate Assistants may research upcoming exhibitions; help with loans, publications, files, press, studio visits, library, and correspondence; write educational texts and exhibit labels; and give gallery tours.

Work-Study Positions

Each year, several NYU students who are eligible for work-study serve at the front desk of the Grey Art Gallery. Their tasks include interacting with gallery visitors, answering questions, monitoring gallery security, answering the telephone, and directing calls.
