Shira Klein is a doctoral candidate in the joint program of the Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and the Department of History. She is interested in the
history of modern Jewish migration, transnational history, and women's history. Her PhD dissertation focuses on Italian Jewish women, men, and children who experienced
dislocation at the hands of Fascism and Nazism, and who rebuilt their lives in Italy, the Americas, and the Middle East between 1938 and 1950. Shira joined the
Graduate Forum in Spring 2009. She values the Forum's interdisciplinary discussions, which enable her to explore the ways in which history intersects with vastly
different disciplines such as law and the sciences.
