Miranda Holmes-Cerfon is a 4th-year PhD student in Applied Mathematics. Her research focuses on mixing processes in the ocean and draws upon ideas from probability theory and oceanography. She has also used math to study things such as lava tubes, and the evolution of cooperation, and is interested in the many ways that mathematics can be used to gain insight into scientific problems. Miranda loves the outdoors and happily ponders problems on a mountain, bike, beach, or cliff face.
