Mandatory Check-In

The US government requires all new international students to report their arrival to NYU. To report your arrival, you must attend a check-in session as soon as possible once you arrive to the United States.

Note that failure to attend a check-in workshop may jeopardize your ability to remain legally in the US.

Who does NOT have to attend a check-in workshop:

  • J-1 students sponsored by other organizations (such as Fulbright)
  • dependents of F-1 and J-1 students
  • international students returning from a leave of absence from NYU

Check-in sessions for the Fall 2015 semester are now over. We will post sessions for the Spring 2016 semester by early January. If you are a newly admitted student and have not yet checked-in with the Office of Global Services, you must come to our walk-in advising hours (see our hours at right) along with the documents listed below.

What to bring:

  • Passport
  • I-94 record
  • I-20 or DS-2019
  • Your dependent’s documents (if you have dependents)

  • Before attending the check-in workshop, update your US address with NYU.
  • You will not be admitted to the check-in without bringing ALL of your required documents.
  • Workshops last approximately 1 hour.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early.
  • Latecomers are not admitted and will be asked to attend a later session.
