New International Student Check-In and Orientation

Welcome to NYU! The US government requires all new NYU international students to report their arrival to NYU. To do this, follow the steps listed. And please remember, if you don’t follow these steps, you risk losing your ability to remain legally in the US.

For Students Beginning NYU before August 1, 2016:

Go to our Mandatory Check-In page for all the details.

For Students Beginning NYU on or after August 1, 2016:

STEP 1

Complete the arrival form and submit your immigration documents to OGS online.

In August we will add a link so that you can upload your documents to an online form here on this page. You won’t be able to provide us with these documents until after your arrival to the US. You will need to have copies (pdf or jpg) of these documents available to upload to the form:

  • Passport
  • F-1 or J-1 visa (except for citizens of Canada and Bermuda)
  • I-94 record
  • I-20 or DS-2019
  • Your dependent's documents (if you have a spouse or children here with you as F-2 or J-2 dependents)

Who does NOT have to submit immigration documents:

  • J-1 students sponsored by other organizations (such as Fulbright)
  • International students returning from a leave of absence from NYU

STEP 2

Attend International Student Orientation.

Learn the basics of keeping legal in the US as an F-1 or J-1 international student, employment in the US, cultural adjustment and coping skills, US classroom culture, safety and security, and more.

Find your school in this table to determine which International Student Orientation to attend. Please note, schools will be adding more details of their orientation sessions closer to the start of the Fall 2016 semester. Check back regularly for any updates to your school.
