In the next three sections, we include student comments and evaluations on the NYUL programme, and in particular on the excursions, field trips, social activity, and other student experiences outside the classroom itself. We have tried to make our selection reasonably representative. We have included some of the more critical comments as well as a selection of the (truly) overwhelmingly supportive and positive ones.
One comment that resurfaces is London’s cost. Clearly, this is something over which we have little control. However, in the student handbook you will receive on arrival, we give a list of relatively cheap restaurants which are easily accessible to you. NYUL is surrounded by many university cafeterias and dining rooms, which offer good value for money. Local supermarkets allow students to prepare home-cooked meals in their kitchens at a reasonable cost.
Often, students fail to compare like-for-like. While here, many, perhaps most, students choose to travel in a way in which they never would do so if they remained in the US. Even cheap travel adds significantly to the overall cost of being in London, and this must be taken account of in judging the cost of being in London, compared to remaining on home campus.
