Student Housing at NYU in London -
NIDO (dorm-style)
NYU in London students who choose the dorm option are housed in one residence managed and operated by NIDO. The residence is in the King’s Cross area of central London, a thirty minute walk or fifteen minute bus ride north east of the NYU in London academic centre.
NYU in London students live together in one building, within an exciting and diverse community of over 1000 young people from all over the world who have chosen to study in London, and will be supported by a team of residential life staff.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF NIDO HOUSING AND FACILITIES
• All bedrooms are single-sex, have en-suite facilities (with showers, not baths) and central heating. Most NYUL bedrooms at Nido are twin rooms. There are a limited number of single rooms available.
• Bed linens are provided; rooms will receive a basic weekly cleaning service.
• Utilities included in the room rate include gas, water, heat and electric, plus 2mb wired (via Ethernet cable) broadband internet access in bedrooms.
• Residential Staff available on-site to assist NYU in London students include Nido Resident Assistants, including 24-hour support in emergencies.
• Additionally there is 24-hour security in the building, including a controlled entry system, a full-time building manager and a manager of the residence.
• All students will have access to maintenance services including a 24-hour emergency number.
• A house phone is provided for every student which can call internal numbers for free.
Students can decide whether they wish to receive and make outside calls from their room through this VOIP system (call costs will immediately be deducted from your NIDO cashless card account), or purchase a mobile phone to use for making and receiving calls.
TWIN ROOM: COMMUNAL KITCHEN
• These rooms have two single beds, two desks and two desk chairs, one set of bookshelves, a noticeboard and two wardrobes to share between two students, and one safe per student.
• Communal kitchens are shared among residents on a floor, rather than having individual kitchenettes in each room.
• Residents of twin rooms share a communal kitchen that contains an oven and 4 hobs, microwaves, allocated space in refrigerators/freezers, lockable storage cabinets for each individual room.
• Students in rooms without kitchenettes will still have a microwave and kettle in-room, and will have dishes, cutlery, pots/pans and utensils provided in the common kitchen.
• Total room size: 16 metres squared. Bathroom dimensions are as follows: Height 2.3 metres, Width: 1.1 metres, Length: 2.1 metres.
TWIN ROOM: WITH IN-ROOM KITCHENETTE
• Containing two single beds, two desks and two desk chairs, one set of bookshelves, a noticeboard and two wardrobes to share between two students, and one safe per student.
• Equipped with kitchenettes in the bedroom.
• The kitchenette is equipped with a refrigerator with freezer shelf, a two burner hob, a kettle and a microwave.
• These rooms have their own dish packs consisting of dishes, cutlery, pots/pans, utensils.
• NOTE: these rooms do not have access to communal kitchens.
• Total room size: 16 metres squared. Bathroom dimensions are as follows: Height 2.3 metres, Width: 1.1 metres, Length: 2.1 metres.
COMMUNAL FACILITIES
NIDO is a cashless community. Students will be provided with a cashless payment card on arrival which can be used to pay for any on-site facilities not covered by NYUL housing fees (restaurant/cafe, laundry, telephone access, etc).
On-site communal facilities include:
• Study rooms
• TV rooms, equipped with multi-region DVD players
• Residents will have access to televisions in communal areas. To be able to watch TV in their own rooms, residents must supply or rent their own TV and purchase a TV licence.
• Screening room
• Regular Residential Life events
• Cafeteria (food available at additional cost)
• Laundry facilities (at additional cost)
• Access to Nido’s on-site gym – free after taking an initial induction class (the cost for this is £10). Includes: Synchro Excite Running Machines, Cable Crossover Trainer, Bike Excite units, Leg Extension Trainer, Run Excite units, Chest Press Trainer, Concept ll Rowers, Leg Curl Unit, Pulldown Trainer, Shoulder Press Unit
• Games space with jukebox, pool table and table football (at additional cost)
• Intranet to access housing services such as maintenance, laundry facility booking, and more.
• There is access to bike storage if needed.
OVERNIGHT GUEST POLICY
NIDO allows students to host guests. They may at their discretion amend the guest policy at any time. Please note the following key points:
• All residents receive 2 overnight guest passes per week. Unused passes do not carry over into the next month.
• Each resident may host one overnight guest at a time.
• There is a maximum of one overnight guest per room at any one time.
• Each overnight guest may stay a maximum of two consecutive nights.
• Depending on availability, separate, single occupancy rooms can also be hired out at a rate of £52 per night.
• All overnight Guest Requests must be approved by your roommate.
• Day guests are allowed between the hours of 8am and midnight.
