NYU in London considers student well-being an essential ingredient of the overall experience of students abroad. To that end, we have arranged several avenues through which students may access support:
• Dr. Susan Strauss is available for consultation, in order to confidentially address a range of wellness-related concerns. When such concerns are of an emotional nature, Susan is able to offer short-term counselling sessions, as well as referral into the community, as needed. Susan also offers several workshops, particularly for Freshmen, including topics such as Study Skills, Time Management, Culture Shock, Alcohol Awareness and Exam Preparation.
• NYUL has established a relationship with the Gower Street Practice, a National Health Service agency in close proximity to NYUL, whereby students can seek medical as well as psychological consultation.
• NYUL students’ health insurance through HTH also gives access to a large network of professionals, addressing both medical and psychological concerns.
In a crisis, NYUL students can access the NYU in London Exchange freephone 24 hours a day on 0800 316 0469, where they can be connected with an NYUL staff member. Students can also use this same freephone number any time, free of charge, to access the NYU Wellness Exchange in New York, or send an e-mail to: wellness.exchange@nyu.edu
In addition to the resources highlighted above, the NYU in London Student Handbook provides students with a wealth of information regarding health and welfare, including many details regarding specific referral sources.
NYUL students may also find some of the following websites of help:
NYU Counseling Service's Relaxation Oasis
NYU’s Outpatient Psychiatry Program
Student Counseling Virtual Pamphlets
Students Against Depression
ULifeline
American Psychological Association
