Not only is NYU in London’s Academic Centre minutes away from attractions such as Oxford Street and Covent Garden, more importantly it is ideally located in the very heart of London’s intellectual centre - the campus precinct of the University of London. This is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse universities in the UK, consisting of self-governing Colleges such as The School of Oriental and African Studies, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UCL, The London School of Economics, and Birkbeck.
NYUL and its students integrate with many local University of London institutions and facilities. Some NYUL classes are held at Birkbeck and UCL, while NYUL students are provided with membership rights at the University of London Library, Senate House, which includes the NYUL teaching collection and catalogue. NYUL students are also provided with Associate Membership at the University of London Union (ULU), which is renowned as a music venue and has a broad range of student facilities and services. NYUL students can also use the many affordable student dining facilities available at nearby University of London colleges.
The area has important literary and artistic connections - Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, George Orwell, WB Yeats and TS Eliot once called Bloomsbury their home, while the collection of intellectuals and writers which became known as the Bloomsbury Group met regularly in the area for three decades in the early twentieth century. Two national treasures - the magnificent British Museum and the British Library – are also mere moments away.
