Director's statement
If you are reading this, you are probably considering whether or not to join us at NYU in London.
I believe that the UK is a very special place for study abroad. For the vast majority of American college students who, unfortunately, are not fluent in a foreign language, the UK offers an opportunity both to be in a foreign country but also to be able to read local newspapers, watch local television, and talk to local students and others. As always in education, what you get out of the experience is in large measure a function of what you put into it. NYU in London offers you that opportunity - to understand and appreciate a culture and way of life that is not your own. This is something that a tourist experience can never do.
If you decide to join us, as I hope you will, I have two wishes for you. First, I hope that you find things here very different from the place you left behind. Second, I hope - and indeed believe - that you will find academic life at NYUL is at least as challenging and rewarding as the one in your home college. We do not believe that the quality of the academic experience needs to be sacrificed in providing an exceptional study abroad experience for you.
