Congratulations on your acceptance to NYU! Before arriving at NYU there are a few things you must first complete. View this section for information on what you must do before starting your academic program at NYU.

What do I need to do before coming to NYU as an international student?

  1. Learn the steps to get your F-1 or J-1 status. Follow the link that describes your situation:
    1. I am currently outside of the U.S. and will come to NYU as a new international student. Get an F-1 or J-1 Visa.
    2. I am currently studying at another institution in the U.S. or am on OPT and need to transfer my SEVIS record from my current school to NYU. Transfer to NYU.
    3. I am currently in the U.S. in another status and need to change to F-1 or J-1 status. Change Status to F-1 or J-1.
  2. Review the process on entering the U.S.
  3. View the arrival checklist and be sure you complete all steps given.
  4. Sign up for a Mandatory Check-In Workshop and attend the workshop before you begin classes.
  5. Be aware that you are required to have health insurance while in the U.S.
