On Thursday, September 18, 2014, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, the OGS will sponsor an orientation breakfast for the spouses/partners of NYU's international students and scholars. Children are welcome! At this all-morning event held in the Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, Room 802, we invite speakers throughout the university, including continuing spouses and partners, to discuss issues of concern such as: continuing education, work, health, and childcare. A resource table is available with information from many university offices. We encourage family members to attend since the event provides a valuable opportunity to meet one another, to share contact information, and for those with children to form playgroups. Reservations with the OGS are required by Monday, September 15, 2014, and can be made by filling out the survey here.
The International Spouses/Partners English Program (ISEP), sponsored jointly by OGS and the NYU Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development, provides non-credit English instruction at OGS once a week for 12 weeks. The course, taught by graduate students in Steinhardt, focuses on conversational English and American culture, and is offered in the fall and spring semesters. The cost is $100 per semester. Fall semester classes begin the week of September 22, 2014. ISEP will be located in the Conference Room at OGS, 561 LaGuardia Place. The application deadline is Friday, September 12, 2014. You can download an application or pick one up at OGS.
The International Spouses/Partners Group (ISG), which meets on a weekly basis on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., allows spouses and partners to meet informally to share common interests and concerns. Children are welcome. The first meeting of the spring semester will be on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. ISG will be located at the Bronfman Center, 7 E. 10th St., ground floor. Interested spouses and partners should register for the group upon arrival. You can download an application or pick one up at OGS.
