The Professional Skills Series and More

The OGS, in collaboration with other NYU offices and professional organizations, provides and advertises events that give students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be effective professionals. Be sure to check back new events. Sponsored by the OGS and the Wasserman Center for Career Development.

PSS sessions are open to all NYU students and their partners. Partners and visiting non-degree students should contact Alison Jackson at anj1@nyu.edu for access to sessions held at the Wasserman Center. Emails should include the name of the program, the student or scholar's name, and the student or scholar's University ID number. Events held in most University buildings require photo identification.

Please note that the Stern School of Business (Graduate), School of Law, School of Medicine, and College of Dentistry students are eligible for assistance from the Wasserman Center in exploring alternative careers. These professional schools do have their own Career Development offices and students should utilize their services for career-specific guidance.

One-To-World Calendar

Meet other international and U.S. students in the New York City area. One To World "brings Americans and students from around the world face-to-face to share their lives and perspectives in life changing ways." Overnight trips over Thanksgiving break, United Nations weekend, and community service are just some of the events available. New York University is a member institution of One To World.

Programs for International Spouses and Partners

 

The International Spouses/Partners English Program (ISEP), sponsored jointly by OGS and the NYU Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development, provides non-credit English instruction at OGS once a week for 12 weeks. The course, taught by a graduate student in Steinhardt, focuses on conversational English and American culture, and is offered in the fall and spring semesters. The cost is $100 per semester. You can download an application or pick one up at OGS. Spring classes begin the week of February 11, 2013 and the application deadline is Friday, February 1, 2013. For application, click here.

The International Spouses/Partners Group (ISG), which meets on a weekly basis on Mondays from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m., allows spouses and partners to meet informally to share common interests and concerns. Children are welcome. Interested spouses and partners should register for the group upon arrival. The first meeting of the Spring semester will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m in the Great Room, 19 University Place. For application, click here.


Commencment Breakfast Advertisement

Commencement Breakfast and International Student Leadership Awards

Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Every spring the OGS sponsors a commencement breakfast for graduating NYU international students, their families and friends. This event is open to U.S. and international students. Enjoy a hot breakfast buffet, live music, and a keynote address from David B. Austell, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President and Director of NYU Office of Gloabal Services, while celebrating graduates' accomplishments at New York University. 

International Student Leadership Award winners and nominators will be announced during the Commencement Breakfast . Winners are selected due to their strong involvement in the NYU community and their specific and significant contribution to improving international student life at NYU.
