The O-1 visa (Alien of Extraordinary Ability) is a temporary work visa used for foreign nationals in the sciences, arts, education, business, athletics, or motion picture/TV production who have been recognized as having sustained national or international acclaim for extraordinary ability. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) defines extraordinary ability as a “level of expertise indicating that the person is one of a small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor.” To qualify, extraordinary ability must be demonstrated by certain specific evidence. For more information about the O-1 including a list of extraordinary evidence requirements please visit USCIS’s O-1 Information page.
Although International Scholar Services will gladly answer any questions that foreign nationals may have regarding the O-1 visa, all requests for sponsorship must originate from an established liaison in the hiring department. Once the request process has been initiated by the liaison, International Scholar Services will follow up with further instructions and information.
