Academic Staff

Diane has been serving in the Chinese school system for many years. She is originally from California, US.

Joyce Ge (Ge Jia Jing) began working with NYU-Shanghai in 2006 while enrolled at Shanghai Normal University, studying Environmental Management. She assists NYU in Shanghai content course instructors, plans student’s external class site visits, and manages day-to-day office receipts and payments. Joyce also manages visa issues for instructors and staff. In addition, Joyce, who is local Shanghainese, lends a hand in student life needs and day-to-day office operations. After work hours, Joyce enjoys taking photographs and going to concerts.


Student Life Staff

Julie joined the NYU Shanghai Student Life Department in 2010. She is responsible for planning extra-curricular activities, organizing travel, and helping students deal with a variety of issues that arise from living and traveling in China. Julie also oversees the residential life and wellness program and manages on and off-campus RAs.

A native of Shanghai, Patty can provide information about local cultural and travel information. As a certified tour guide in Shanghai, Patty is also a great resource for information on historical and tourist sights throughout the city. Patty also helps to facilitate students' interaction with Chinese people and culture by arranging activities with Chinese students outside of the classroom such as monthly tea talks and regular sporting events. Patty has a Bachelor's Degree from Shanghai International Studies University’s Global School of Education.

Haohao began with NYU Shanghai in the spring of 2010 after having completed her master's degree in International Education at East China Normal University. She is originally from Urumuqi, Xinjiang a province in western China.


Chinese Language Staff

Li Yuan Yuan graduated from the International Chinese Study College of ECNU in June, 2007 with a M.A. degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. Before joining NYU Shanghai full-time in August 2007, Li Laoshi taught Chinese for more than three years as a part-time Mandarin teacher at ECNU and Tongji University. She has also taught Chinese classes at the University of Virginia to great success. In her spare time, Li Laoshi enjoys traveling and cooking.

With a MA in Teaching Chinese as Second Language (June, 2009), RuoYu Gao has taught at the University of Virginia Shanghai Language Program, ECNU, and CIEE. With great enthusiasm in Chinese teaching, she gets along well with her students and has received high marks in various evaluations. Her research interest is fluency of oral Chinese as a foreign language. In her spare time, Gao Laoshi enjoys traveling and Korean dramas.

The visa wizard, resident photographer, and acting mother of NYU Shanghai, Shen Laoshi helps out in both Student Life and Office Administration. She has been working in the field of international education administration for many years and hopes that students will not hesitate to call on her for help at anytime. Shen Laoshi enjoys ping-pong, dancing, and the beach.
