Facilities & Services

The Center

NYU Shanghai is located on the third level of the Science building on the campus of East China Normal University, one of the country’s premier institutions of higher learning, located to the northwest of the city center. The sprawling, green campus hosts many facilities such as a large library, classroom and administrative buildings, dormitories, extensive playing fields, and various small shops and restaurants. At the NYU Center you find classrooms, study lounge, computer area, faculty and staff offices, snack room, and outdoor patio.

The required Mandarin language course is taught by professors who are experts in teaching Chinese language. The centralized nature and small size of the NYU Shanghai program provides an amazing community environment for you as a student.

  • The on-campus classrooms are located in an ECNU building very close to the dorm, with space that provides literature on China, computers and printing, administration offices and student life offices.
  • The administrators are at the facilities most of the time and getting in touch with a faculty member is quite easy.

The City as a Classroom

Many of the courses include additional activities that are off-campus visits to Shanghai’s historical sites or cultural centers. The idea behind these events is that any educational experience, whether in a new country to you or otherwise, is enhanced by opportunities that allow students to interact with topics and themes in a non-classroom environment. As a result, the city of Shanghai essentially becomes an extension of the classroom.
