Living and studying abroad offers the unique opportunity to incorporate the city and its culture into your learning experience. NYU Berlin offers academic programs for the fall or spring semester as well as the full academic year. A six-week summer program is also offered. All strive to relate academics to the cultural understanding students will acquire while living in Berlin. Courses like Exploring Historical and Contemporary Berlin allow students to learn about the history of the city through visits to diverse neighborhoods as well as sites of historic significance.
Courses are taught by NYU faculty, members of the Humboldt faculty, and instructors from Berlin’s wider academic community. You’ll take three to four courses, including a required German language course, and choose from seminars and lecture courses in German cultural studies, sociology, European studies, politics, fine art, and art history. Although knowledge of German is not required to participate in this program (all courses are taught in English), you are required to take a German language course at your appropriate skill level. NYU Berlin is currently expanding its curriculum to offer courses in journalism, music history, and psychology. With a broader range of course offerings, students can stay on track with their major while having a meaningful experience abroad.
