Independent Housing (Option 2)

Independent Housing (Option 2) means that you would prefer to find your own housing in Paris rather than request NYU to find housing for you.

Students who choose Independent Housing are typically students who already have accommodations available for them in Paris (through family, relatives, etc.) or students who prefer to work with a broker to secure accommodations in Paris prior to their departure.

Students who select Option 2 on their housing questionnaire will be provided with a New York-based rental agency who you can work with to find housing to suite your preferences. You should expect to pay a non-refundable “finder’s fee” to the agency before departing for Paris, which is equivalent to one month’s rent. NYU Paris has negotiated a 15% discount on the fee if you use our recommended broker.

Important - Students must pay a security deposit and monthly rent directly to landlord in Euros. Housing charges do not appear on e-bill.

  • As you are in control of your own housing, you will be able to request the amenities that best suit you

Things to Know

  • Recommended for students who want total control over their housing (style, location, cost, etc.)
  • You can select an apartment based on descriptions and photos (rather than receiving an assignment)
  • Only housing option where you will know where you are living BEFORE arriving in Paris
  • Brokers have many more apartments at their disposal than NYU Paris, so you will be able to choose among a broader range of apartments
  • Expect to pay 25% of first month's rent to the landlord BEFORE arrival in Paris to hold your spot. The remaining rent and security deposit (deposit equivalent to one month's rent) will be due at move in.

  • The cost varies depending on the preferences you submit to the broker
