Each semester, the NYU Madrid staff plans several day trips and weekend excursions outside of Madrid, all of which are included in your tuition. Your understanding of Spain is broadened by journeys to other regions, such as a three-day trip to Andalucía (Córdoba and Granada), Old Castile (Burgos and León), or Extremadura (Roman ruins of Mérida, Cáceres, and Trujillo). You might find yourself on a two-day trip to Salamanca or Cáceres and Mérida, or on day trips to nearby Segovia, Toledo, and El Escorial.
If you'd like, you can also make plans for your own weekend adventures beyond the city. With most Fridays off from classes, you'll surely use a few of your weekends to travel with your friends. It's very easy and relatively inexpensive to travel from Madrid to any corner of the Iberian Peninsula. Recently, students have traveled to Lisbon, Barcelona, Seville, and the Canary Islands.
