Housing Options (as of Fall 2012)

For the Spring 2012 semester, NYU London will house 75% of students within two self-managed residences in the Bloomsbury area (Byron Court and Guilford Street).

The remaining 25% of the total housing space is available within Nido King's Cross housing.

NYU London staff will always endeavour to accommodate student preferences; however, due to the space limitations, students may be placed in any of the housing possibilities regardless of preferences. Please note: It may be necessary to place some students in other similar accommodation which does not exactly match the descriptions that follow. As far as possible, full details will be given in advance.

NYU London manages two residences – Byron Court and Guilford Street. Both are approximately 10-15 minutes walk away from the NYUL academic center in Bedford Square.

Apartments are single-sex. They contain between 1 and 3 bedrooms, shared by between 2 and 9 students in a combination of twin, triple and quadruple rooms. There are shared bathroom facilities with at least one shower (not baths) within each apartment.

Each apartment differs slightly in terms of layout and facilities. Apartments will be cleaned once per week and your linen will be provided on the same day.

Students can prepare meals in the apartment kitchens or eat out at the numerous restaurants in the nearby neighborhood. Apartments contain fully furnished kitchens, with a shared refrigerator/freezer, oven, stove, kettle and a microwave, as well as dishes, cutlery, pots/pans and utensils.

Each student will have their own single bed, wardrobe, two small storage units, desk, chair and notice board. Bed linens areprovided (one fitted sheet, a duvet / comforter, a duvet / comforter cover, a pillow and pillow case per bed). Towels are not provided.

Some apartments have ethernet points to access wired internet while wireless internet in the building can be accessed in the apartments and communal areas. Apartments have both heating and air-conditioning. Utilities included in the room rate include gas, water, heat and electric.

All housing facilities and areas, including bedrooms, will be strictly non-smoking.

The residences also feature communal areas for study and leisure, and on-site laundry facilities. Communal areas differ within the two NYU in London managed residences, but both have a TV lounge and study area complete with desktop computers.

Both buildings have a residence manager on-site providing advice, guidance, support, and residential life activities.

The residences both have 24-hour reception desks manned by security staff, as well as controlled, electronic entry systems and CCTV.

Both buildings are deemed quiet areas after 11pm, there should be no noise audible outside of apartments. Residents of Byron Court and Guilford Street are able to use the communal facilities of both buildings 24 hours a day; however, overnight external guests are limited to 8 per month (pro rata) per student and an authorization form will need to be completed 24 hours prior to your guest’s arrival. NYUL guests can be signed in on the spot.

NYU London offers a limited number of beds to students who would like the opportunity to join a diverse residential community of over 1000 residents from all over the world who have chosen to live and study in London.

The residence is carefully monitored by Nido and NYUL staff, and has Nido Resident Assistants (RAs) living on site to address problems or issues as they arise, as well as to act as a resource and support for students.

Please note that the price difference for Nido vs. NYU's primary residences (Byron Court and Guilford House) takes into account the differences in location and accommodations. It is important to recognize that this residence is located further away from NYU London, the room sizes are smaller, and it is in a larger complex of buildings managed by an outside company. As stated above, the majority of students will be housed in NYUL managed residences as opposed to Nido; however, for some students, Nido may be a good option.
