The NYU Center is centrally located near the many famous colleges of the University of London, including the London School of Economics, University College London, Kings College, and the School of Oriental and African Studies. Access is provided to the nearby University of London Library, one of the finest humanities and social science libraries in the UK, which provides a rich academic resource for NYU London students. NYU London students automatically become members of the University of London Student Union and are able to participate in many of its social events, clubs, and sports, as well as being eligible to join their gym. London is full of opportunities to interact with British residents outside the university setting through the city's outdoor markets and cafés, restaurants and coffee bars, and cinemas and clubs.
The neighborhood hosts many other famous associations and institutes: the Royal Institute of Philosophy, the Architectural Association, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and the British Museum are a few examples. NYU London students are encouraged to participate in the varied and abundant intellectual and cultural life of the Bloomsbury area.
Student facilities at the NYU Center in London include classrooms, a student lounge, meeting rooms with video conferencing and Internet presentation capabilities, a well-equipped research library, and two computer laboratories. All students studying at NYU London have access to the University of London's immense library facilities.
Senate House is the home to the University of London Library (Senate House Library), the best university library collection in London. In addition to having access to its extensive holdings, ULL also operates a special course collection, whose use is restricted to NYUL students, and which holds all the required and recommended reading for NYUL courses.
NYUL offers a special programme in African Studies, with the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. NYUL students are able to choose as many as two of five courses on offer at SOAS, and SOAS students can take for credit any of three NYUL courses.
Video Conferencing in the London classrooms allows students in paired classes to communicate in real-time with students and faculty in other GNU locations.
