The programme is designed as a single curriculum of required courses. Please see our course descriptions. Students will also receive supplementary lectures from NY via video conference, including LEED training and a lecture in US Preservation Law.
Students will have access to extensive library facilities in London, including the excellent collections at the Architectural Association (A.A.), just across Bedford Square.Specialized holdings will be available at the Royal Institute of British Architects (R.I.B.A.) library, one of the most comprehensive collections of architectural material in the world, and students may join the British Library. Many professors will be taking students to work in additional libraries, including the Guildhall Library and the Royal Academy of Arts Library. Students will also have electronic access to many NYU collections, databases, and electronic resources through the Bobst Library system. The NYUL campus has two computer labs, a scanner, and offers students a generous free printing allowance.
The Graduate school of Arts and Science charges tuition and fees on per credit basis. The programe consists of 32 credits, and the current credit rate can be found here. We are able to offer most accepted candidates a 30% fellowship toward the cost of tuition and fees. Under the arrangement, the cost for our programme in 2012-13 is just under $32,000, discounted from the full price of nearly $46,000
The Graduate School of Arts and Science provides matching awards for some grants and fellowships through the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP). This program encourages students to apply for external assistance and provides Graduate School tuition support to award recipients.
NYU-London is housed in a beautiful historic property fully equipped with classrooms, computer labs, faculty offices, meeting rooms, social spaces, and a student kitchen. Please see our page on Campus Facilities for more information.In addition to what is offered in the NYU-London campus, students will receive a University of London Union (ULU) student card, allowing them to join the ULU health club and swimming pool at a discounted rate, to access the student bar, and to join student clubs and societies. NYU-London also has a partnership with the University College Union (UCLU), where students can join an even wider variety of student groups, some of which are specifically intended for graduate students. Private gym facilities are also available at reasonable rates in the vicinity of the Bedford Square campus.
Most students find their own housing in private or shared accommodations.We will send a list of housing resources and recommendations to accepted candidates upon admission.NYU can recommend academic housing providers offering shared and private accommodation in the Bedford Square area.
London is connected by a very extensive public transportation network comprising underground trains (the tube), buses, and overland trains. During orientation week, students will receive an Oyster card, to which they can add money, and use to access all forms of transportation in the Transport for London (TFL) network. Students may also purchase a student Oyster card from TFL which offers discounts on travel cards
The Graduate School of Arts and Science requires all students to provide proof of medical insurance coverage or to purchase the minimum plan offered through the university. In addition to this domestic insurance, Britain's National Health Service (NHS) will cover students for the duration of the MA course. Upon arrival, students can register at the NHS Gower Street Practice near the NYU London campus.
Students accepted for 2012-13 will enter the UK on a Tier 4 Adult Student (General) visa. This may permit them to work up tp 20 hours in term time and up to 40 hourse outside term time, and hold internships while in the UK. However this is subject to a decision by your local consulate. We will send further information about visa and immigration requirements to accepted students.
