The Student Life staff at NYU Buenos Aires strives to make your experience in Argentina unique. We regularly plan trips and activities to allow students to connect with Argentina's lively culture and people. We also help students adjust to life outside of class and try to create a sense of community by integrating them into Argentine culture.
Students will have plenty of opportunities to explore South America. NYU Buenos Aires offers a one-week break in both spring and fall that students can use to travel to different areas. We also organize a trip during the semester.
Another important part of the study abroad experience is to meet and interact with local students. The NYU Buenos Aires staff coordinates cultural and social events so that students can meet local "porteños" and make lasting friendships.
Travel is an important part of the study abroad experience; NYU Buenos Aires encourages students to travel not only in Argentina but also throughout South America.
Argentina offers diverse landscapes and destinations, among them the city of Cordoba, famous for its colonial architecture; the magnificent falls in Iguazú; and Mendoza, known for its wine and rugged mountains. On weekends, students can take a ferry to the beautiful and tranquil Uruguayan city of Colonia del Sacramento.
During the semester, NYU Buenos Aires partially sponsors a trip to one of the many Argentine provinces. Students usually pay a deposit of USD 100 to 200 depending on the destination of that semester. Students have a one-week break mid-semester during which they are encouraged to take longer journeys to the glaciers in Patagonia, the beaches of Brazil, or the ruins in Machu Picchu, Perú.
Students can get discount airplane tickets or take comfortable long-range buses to get where they are going, and there are numerous local travel agencies and services that will help them make their travel arrangements. NYU Buenos Aires can assist with planning, but students are ultimately responsible for independent travel plans.
