Art and Art History

Berlin is home to the most innovative contemporary art scene in Europe, and includes an ever expanding expatriate art community. Art students at NYU Berlin work in expansive newly constructed studio spaces for sculpture, digital art, and painting and drawing.

At NYU Berlin, students can take a number of sociology courses in which topics such as industrial society, the politics of the European Union and Europe’s relationship with the U.S. are examined in depth.

Living and studying abroad offers the unique opportunity to incorporate the city and its culture into your learning experience. NYU Berlin offers academic programs for the fall or spring semester as well as the full academic year.  A six-week summer program is also offered.  All strive to relate academics to the cultural understanding students will acquire while living in Berlin.

Courses are taught by NYU faculty, members of the Humboldt faculty, and instructors from Berlin’s wider academic community.  You’ll take three to four courses, including a required German language course, and choose from seminars and lecture courses in German cultural studies, sociology, European studies, politics, fine art, and art history.  Although knowledge of German is not required to participate in this program, you are required to take a German language course at your appropriate skill level.
