A WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR
BENVENUTI !
WELCOME! to NYU in Florence, located at La Pietra, a magnificent estate covering 60 acres of open fields, formal gardens, olive groves, and including five villas. The faculty and the administrative staff are here to ensure that your experience in Florence is intellectually and culturally rewarding.
At NYU in Florence, you will join a small University community to share the experience of living in a new culture. The many activities of campus life – academic courses, field trips and site visits, guest lectures, academic conferences, study groups, Italian language immersion projects, the Villa and the grounds of La Pietra -- are all waiting for you. You’ll also immerse yourself in Italy, sample the Italian life-style, and understand the history and the daily life of this city -- one of the principal cultural centers of Europe.
The curriculum, with more than 50 courses each semester, includes classes that make the most of Florence but also offers a wide-enough selection to allow you to make further progress towards major and minor requirements in a number of different areas. A semester or academic year of study in Florence will also develop or improve your language skills; for many students, it is also a chance to learn more about their own families’ Italian origins. The teaching faculty – more than 60 instructors - comes to NYU in Florence from some of the leading academic institutions in the area. Both the quality of instruction and our expectations of you are high. Navigating through this site, you will find a complete list of courses and faculty.
You’ll also have full access to the wide range of student services that NYU in Florence provides: trips and activities outside of the classroom curriculum, student-run events, campus clubs, Wellness program initiatives, health services, and a round-the-clock emergency response program.
The Office of Academic Support is available to help you with registration, advising, and the extensive program of course-related field trips. The Office of Student Life oversees all aspects of your student life in Florence, including on-campus and off-campus housing. The Office of Community Relations organizes marvelous volunteer opportunities throughout the city. Taken all together, NYU in Florence offers its students a wealth of opportunities both in and out of the classroom. I look forward to welcoming you to the campus in person.
