Our locations beyond the main portal campus in New York City include TischAsia in Singapore, NYU Law in Singapore, and academic sites in Shanghai, China.

Direct exchange programs with 12 distinguished partner institutions, 27 summer session locations, an ever-changing roster of intersession programming offered by NYU’s various schools, colleges, and programs, and curriculum-driven initiatives expand the global network—from Beijing to Johannesburg, Santiago to Vienna.

Around the world, students work closely with faculty and with their peers on shared commitments.  They apply what they learn and develop the skills and qualities—both needed and expected in this increasingly integrated, global climate—to make a real difference in the world.

Calvin Tse - NYU in Shanghai

Calvin Tse

Calvin Tse’s sophomore-year semester at NYU in Shanghai had personal, academic, and professional significance for him. He says, “On a personal level, living in the place where my grandparents grew up and my parents were born was important to me—I had been feeling a bit incomplete living as I do while not knowing anything about where my family came from.”

Ultimately, Calvin would like to work as a trader in a major investment bank. Through his experience in Shanghai, he has come to understand that “we are all being connected in significant ways, through globalization, business, and culture.” Calvin says, “As New Yorkers, we oftentimes believe that we are the center of the universe. Truth is, there is so much more out there, and I’ve just had a small taste of the excitement, the challenges, and the rewards of being a global citizen. I can no longer focus only on business here in New York. As I gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and language, my academic and professional opportunities have broadened.”

Calvin will pursue other international opportunities through NYU. He says, “I cannot emphasize enough the impact that gaining a deeper understanding, appreciation, and respect for another culture has had on me. I’ve started learning the language, and I’ve come to understand that it may seem different or weird on first judgment but may be a life skill in the making. That’s what going to Shanghai really started for me.”
