- A student rehearsal studio.
- A student art studio.

- Commissioned artwork that will provide a graphic identity and serve to unify the space as “Gallatin’s home.”
- State-of-the-art technology: the entire space will be wireless-enabled, and classroom and meeting spaces will be outfitted with appropriate audio, video, and computer technology.
How does this project fit into the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability?
- We believe this project is the first renovation project at NYU to seek LEED certification. LEED is the U.S. Green Buildings Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System™. This is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.
- The space includes energy-saving components, such as energy efficient lighting, equipment, and appliances; water saving devices; recycling facilities; and environmentally friendly furniture and finishings. The project has also incorporated construction practices (like the sorting and recycling of construction waste) to mitigate impact on the environment.
- We intend to document the components of the project that promote sustainability and then disseminate this information in a variety of ways to show how design can be functional, attractive, and still environmentally responsible. We hope this project provides NYU with useful data to inform future projects of this type.
- This project will be a visible front-end to a larger commitment by the Gallatin community toward environmental sustainability. We have formed a Gallatin Green Committee to continue to provide advice and counsel on making Gallatin as environmentally sound and sustainable as possible.
