Financial Aid
We believe that you should be able to choose a college that offers you the best range of educational opportunities. In order to make this choice possible, we attempt to aid students who are in need of financial assistance. In fact, many Gallatin students receive some form of financial aid. Certainly when determining your college expenses, you should consider the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and residence-will you be living in a dormitory or will you be commuting to school from home? You should also factor into your calculations the amount of financial aid that is available to you from a variety of sources.
You may be eligible for financial assistance that comes directly from the University. You may also qualify for aid from outside the University. This assistance may be based on financial need, academic merit, or special program requirements. There are many financial aid options to consider, and it is definitely to your advantage to file for aid as early in the admissions process as possible. Final decisions on financial aid are made after a student is admitted into the Gallatin School. In addition to financial aid based on need, there are several scholarships available to both undergraduate and graduate students. You are encouraged to actively seek-out and apply for private scholarships and loans from external sources. However, please exercise caution when applying for scholarships on the internet because there are some "scholarship scams" out there.
NYU requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be obtained from your local high school College or by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID or by logging on to the FAFSA web site www.fafsa.ed.gov .
When you file the FAFSA, please indicate that the form is to be sent to New York University, code number 002785. The FAFSA form is available after November 1. For entrance in the fall term, your FAFSA must be received by February 15 (for freshmen) or March 1 (for transfers and graduate students). For entrance in the spring term, your FAFSA must be received by November 1. Early decision candidates for the fall term should submit the NYU Early Decision Financial Aid Application by November 15 in order to receive an estimated award. Reynolds Foundation Fellowships in Social Entrepreneurship
New York University is delighted to announce an exciting new opportunity for students interested in social entrepreneurship. Each year, the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Program in Social Entrepreneurship will offer 10 undergraduate scholarships and 20 graduate fellowships to a highly selective group of individuals with the vision and passion to take new approaches to broad social problems. Open to students from throughout NYU's 14 schools, the program will provide the very best in training, curricular and co-curricular activities.
Social entrepreneurship is a diverse and expanding field that comprises multiple disciplines, sectors and practices. Some people, either individually or in groups, create new ventures. Others choose to be in professions that support or contribute to that work (e.g. theatre educators, filmmakers documenting new ventures, managers running the operations).
More information and application is available on the Reynolds website - www.nyu.edu/reynolds.
Gallatin Scholarships and Awards
The Gallatin School has a number of additional scholarships available to both undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate/Graduate Gallatin Scholarships are sponsored and administered by New York University. Gallatin Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic progress. All of these awards are competitive and some are awarded by nomination only - that is, you do not apply directly for this scholarship.
