Gallatin Announces New Fellowship for Graduate Students

The Gallatin Interdisciplinary Arts Program, in conjunction with the Newington-Cropsey Foundation Academy of Art, is pleased to announce a new fellowship for graduate-level students at the Gallatin School. The purpose of the Newington-Cropsey Gallatin Fellowship is to help students advance towards the completion of their graduate thesis projects.

On October 22, 2005 the Newington-Cropsey Foundation Academy of Art hosted a luncheon at their site in Hastings-on-Hudson to confer the fellowships on five outstanding current Gallatin graduate students. Adelia Racines, a member of the Newington-Cropsey board of trustees, and Greg Wyatt, board member, director of the Academy of Art, and Gallatin faculty adviser, welcomed the honorees. Gallatin’s Dean Ali Mirsepassi and Professors Michael Dinwiddie, Laurin Raiken, Julie Malnig, Antonio Rutigliano, and André De Shields, along with NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies Professor Josephine de Caro took part in the presentation.

The fellowships were conferred on the following students: Raquel Liberman, for her work in playwriting and comparative literature; Catherine Massey, for her work in dance and dance writing; Mathew Sandoval, for his work in physical theatre; Kenneth White, for his work in music and dance; and Nicole Watson, for her work in the arts, history, and education. During the 2005-2006 academic year the students are pursuing their master’s studies and participating in a seminar coordinated by Professors Rutigliano, Dinwiddie, and Raiken. Exploring the traditions and trajectories of the “inner journey,” the seminar guides the students in revealing those elements of the humanistic tradition that will illumine their work.
