The Literacy Review Publication and Celebration: May 1 marked the publication of The Literacy Review, the annual anthology of writing by adults in Basic Education, GED and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programs throughout New York City. This fifth volume was created by student-editors Phoebe Fox (editor in chief), Sari Bernstein, Mara Dajevskis, Molly Miller-Petrie, Allyson Paty, and Kristen Van Autreve; photographers Isabella Alexander and Dave Aakhus; and designer Sam Gogolak, supervised by Writing Program Director June Foley. The editorial team welcomed 175 guests, including the 67 writers whose work was chosen from 402 submissions, their teachers, tutors, and site supervisors, to NYU's Kimmel Center for a dinner and reading. Among the 22 writers who read their work aloud were Liliya Moyzhes (pictured), who immigrated from Russia and studies English at the New York City Department of Education's Mid-Manhattan Adult Learning Center. The NYU Office of Community Service and Gallatin alumna Claire Morris Stern (BA '89, MA '98) fund the publication and event. All Gallatin community members who would like a copy of The Literacy Review should contact Writing Program Director June Foley at jaf3@nyu.edu.
