Transfer Student Orientation

Welcome to Gallatin from the Offices of Student Affairs, Advising, and Student Services! We are here to help make your transition to Gallatin smooth and trouble-free.

Please attend a mandatory Orientation session just for transfer students, on Tuesday, August 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. By now you will have been in touch with our Office of Advising, and know the basics—how to choose classes, how to register on Albert—but there is much more for you to discover. Orientation is designed to supply you with all the information you need to be prepared for the fall semester and beyond.

You’ll be welcomed by our deans and meet faculty and staff who will speak to you about key aspects of your Gallatin experience. You will also meet this year’s Orientation Leaders, a group of current Gallatin students who can answer many of your questions about life at NYU and New York City. Importantly, following Orientation, adviser assignments will be distributed by the Office of Advising. Orientation takes place at Gallatin’s Jerry H. Labowitz Theatre for the Performing Arts, at 715 Broadway, main floor. Lunch will be served!

A particularly distinct aspect of Gallatin’s Orientation is its academic focus. We’d like to introduce you to our intellectual community even before classes begin, so we will devote a portion of the program to a discussion of texts we have mailed to your permanent address.

There is no fee for Orientation, but you must RSVP to the session by Friday, August 15, so we can confirm that you are coming. Orientation is essential both for external and internal transfer students!

If you have questions, no matter how large or small, you should not hesitate to call us! For questions about academics, please call the Office of Advising at (212) 998-7320. For other questions, please feel free to contact the Office of Student Affairs at (212) 998-7380.
