Gallatin students do not declare a major. However, every Gallatin student has a unique academic "concentration," a set of learning experiences organized around a theme, period, region, method, or other idea. A pre-med student might combine biology and chemistry courses with ones about the process of globalization to create a concentration in Medicine in the Developing World; a dancer might take performance classes and courses in gender and sexuality studies to develop a concentration in Body Politics; an activist might mix courses in the sociology and economics of social change, internships in grass-roots organizations, and an independent study in social movements to construct a concentration in Social Entrepreneurialism. Please describe as best you can the focus of your intended concentration.

Non-classroom study in the form of internships, independent studies, private lessons, and tutorials can constitute a significant part of your concentration. Please tell us which of these non-classroom study opportunities you plan to integrate into your program of study.

Do you plan to study abroad? If so, which term and where? (NOTE: Transfer students are not permitted to study abroad in their first semester at Gallatin.)

The Office of Advising offers walk-in hours for general questions regarding Gallatin policies and procedures. As a Gallatin student, you will be assigned to a primary faculty adviser whose academic interests match yours. Students and advisers work together to map out the concentration and each semester's specific plan of study. Keeping this in mind, what academic training, scholarly or professional interests, and background do you most desire from a primary adviser?
