Registering for Classes on Albert

This step happens after you have selected your classes, received adviser approval and electronic clearance for registration. All first-year students have been assigned a registration appointment for the morning of June 25, 2009. You should complete steps 1-4 below before registration to view your appointment, enter your emergency contact information and check for potential stops/blocks on your record. You will not be able to register on June 25 if you do not resolve registration blocks. Be aware that you cannot complete step 5 (register for classes) until you have entered your emergency contact information and your appointment time has arrived. If you need assistance with any of the steps below, please call Gallatin’s Office of Student Services at (212) 998-7378.

On Albert, you can confirm that you received adviser clearance, see whether you have any registration blocks, and check your registration appointment (if one has been assigned). From Albert’s home page:
    • Go to the Personal Profile (ADDR/STOPS) menu and select STOPS. If there are any stops or blocks on your record, you will not be able to register. Albert should provide instructions on resolving the stop and/or block. You should resolve any blocks on your registration before the morning of June 25, 2009. If you need assistance with a stop or block, contact the Gallatin Office of Student Services, (212) 998-7378.
    • Go to the Registration menu and select REGISTRATION STATUS. Read everything on this page, especially the important link provided about the availability of web registration. You were assigned a registration appointment time, which you will find here. You can register at (or anytime after) this assigned time, but not before.
  5. Register for classes
    • From Albert’s home page, go to the Registration menu and select REGISTER. Read everything that appears on the page before continuing as these are important instructions about your tuition payment deadline. Be sure to use the link, Tuition and Fee Payment Schedule. You could be dropped from your classes if you disregard this information!
      • To register for classes, make sure both fields on the screen are set appropriately (see below), then click the SUBMIT button on your Albert page.
      • Academic Unit of Registration: All Undergraduate Programs (Except College of Dentistry)
      • Term of Registration: Fall Semester, 2009
    • Enter the five-digit call numbers for all of your courses from your “Plan of Study” onto the Albert page containing the online form, “Course Requests for Fall 2009,” then click the SUBMIT button. With this activity, you are registering yourself for these courses.
    • STUDENTS NOT ABLE TO ATTEND ORIENTATION: Pease e-mail Gail Drakes, gjd210@nyu.edu, once you have completed registration. If you encounter problems while registering, read No. 6 below. If you are unable to resolve these problems on your own, contact Gallatin’s Office of Advising, (212) 998-7320.
  6. Resolve registration problems. If you are unable to add a class to your schedule, you will receive an error message from Albert. To learn how to resolve these errors, go to Resolving Registration Problems on Albert. If you are not permitted to register because your first-choice course is closed, you should register for one of your back-up courses. In some instances you may have to adjust other classes on your schedule to accommodate your back-up courses. Once finished, you should be registered for approximately 16 credits worth of classes.
    • DROPPING CLASSES - Once you have successfully added a course to your schedule, the DROP option in the FUNCTION column on the Course Request form will appear for this course. To drop a course, select the DROP option and click SUBMIT.
  7. Verify and Print your Schedule
Once you have completed your registration, you should be enrolled for at least 12 credits. Full-time students are registered for 12-18 credits. Students receiving financial aid must be full-time students and aware of the policy on Satisfactory Academic Progress. Verify your registration activity on Albert by printing your schedule. Make sure to correct all registration mistakes BEFORE the first day of classes to avoid financial penalties. To view and print your schedule, go to the Registration menu on Albert’s home page and select (STUDENT) SCHEDULE.

  8. Pay your Tuition
New York University sets tuition payment deadlines for each fall, spring, and summer semester. This year, the Fall 2009 tuition payment deadline is Monday, August 10, 2009. Students who do not meet the tuition payment deadline will be dropped from their classes, lose their spot in their courses, and must re-register for all of their classes. Since students are responsible for knowing the deadlines and following the financial policies, you must read the Tuition & Financial Matters section of this website, and you should use the website of the Office of the Bursar (www.nyu.edu/bursar).
