First-Year Program

As a first-year student at Gallatin, you will be assigned to a seasoned academic adviser who can help you navigate your beginning here. You will meet your adviser when the Fall semester begins, and you will work with her or him throughout your time at Gallatin.

An individualized program of study requires both a vision of the future and creative strategic planning, and your adviser can help you work on both. Your adviser will help you develop a plan of study each semester, and she or he may also supervise future independent studies and internships. Finally, your adviser will help you envision and plan for your Senior Colloquium.

Gallatin boasts a core of experienced academic advisers from all over NYU and New York City. Gallatin’s Office of Academic Advising will pair you with an adviser who will help ensure that your individual program not only has depth, breadth, and coherence, but is also consistent with your career and educational goals.

NOTE: Your adviser at Gallatin is an academic adviser. If you have questions about non-academic issues such as housing, tuition, financial aid, health insurance, etc., you should contact the appropriate NYU office. If you still have trouble finding answers to these non-academic questions, you should contact Gallatin’s Office of Student Services at (212) 998-7335.
