Marching at Graduation

Invitations

Invitations to participate in NYU Commencement and Gallatin Graduation are extended to all graduates and degree candidates for degrees for the 2008-2009 academic year (September 2008, January 2009 and May 2009). Candidates for May degrees are identified as those who have applied for graduation via TorchTone by January 30, 2009.

Students will receive the NYU Commencement invitation during the first week of April. The invitation to the Gallatin Graduation will arrive soon thereafter.

Note: Be certain to update your address on Albert. If you have not received the Commencement invitation by the second week in April, you should verify your address with the Office of the University Registrar at 25 West 4th Street. If your invitation was sent to an incorrect address, you may request a replacement. Otherwise, you may be directed to contact the Department of Degree Audit at (212) 998-4260.

Petitions

September 2009 candidates may request to participate in the NYU Commencement and Gallatin Graduation ceremonies in May, if they meet the criteria below. The Petition form may be obtained at the reception desk of 715 Broadway 5th floor, and must be submitted no later than April 17.

BA Students
  • Step 1: Complete all credit requirements for the degree. If there are any credit requirements outstanding after the Spring 2009 semester, register for summer courses that will fulfill all remaining credit requirements. No more than 8 credits may remain after Spring 2009 and they must be completed before the Fall 2009 semester.
  • Step 2: Schedule the Colloquium. If the Colloquium is still outstanding, students must submit the adviser-approved rationale and booklist and the Colloquium registration form before April 17. The Colloquium must be completed by September 25, 2009 for a September 2009 graduation, and the Colloquium must be scheduled before petitioning to participate in May graduation events.
  • Step 3: Apply to graduate in September 2009 by calling TorchTone.
  • Step 4: Submit a Petition to participate in the NYU Commencement and Gallatin Graduation ceremonies in May.

Students also must update their expected date of graduation on TorchTone to September 2009 between February 2 and June 5, 2009.

Candidates who will not complete their degree requirements by September 25, 2009 may not petition to attend the May 2009 ceremonies. They will be invited to march in the May 2010 ceremonies.
