Advisement & Registration

To create a deep and meaningful individualized program of study, a student must of course take relevant and challenging courses. But the successful student also pays careful attention to academic policies and deadlines. In achieving your academic goals, you will work with two offices at Gallatin—the Office of Advising and the Office of Student Services.

The Office of Advising will assign you to a primary adviser who is knowledgeable in your field of study. At registration time, you will consult with your primary adviser (usually a faculty member) on your proposed course of study for the next semester. Throughout the year, the staff of the Office of Advising is available to help you articulate your educational interests and goals, locate interesting and appropriate classes, and understand and fulfill degree requirements. To contact the Office of Advising, come to 719 Broadway, 5th Floor, or call (212) 998-7320.

The Office of Student Services will help you facilitate the mechanics of your academic program. During registration, the staff of Student Services will clear you to register and will inform you of important deadlines involving tuition payment and dropping or adding courses. Throughout the year, Student Services will be your primary liaison to three of the University’s central administrative branches: Office of the University Registrar, Office of the Bursar, and Office of Financial Aid. To contact the Office of Student Services, come to 715 Broadway, 6th Floor, or call (212) 998-7370.
