Registering on Albert

Congratulations! You have successfully selected your courses , and have received adviser approval and clearance for registration. You should read the paragraphs below before continuing.

This website has been developed by Gallatin's Office of Student Services to walk you through the registration process. Students at NYU register by accessing the University's student information system either:

  • on-line (using Albert — named after Albert Gallatin!) or
  • over the telephone (using TorchTone).

Besides registration, access to the student information system provides information about:

  • your class schedule
  • classroom locations
  • grades
  • degree progress
  • financial aid status
  • bursar account balance

Using Albert, you can also update your address and contact information.

If you do not have multiple "back-up" courses, or if you have any questions about your course selections, degree requirements, or other academic concerns, you should contact Patrick McCreery (email: pgm3871@nyu.edu; phone: (212) 998-7351) before you begin to register. If you have questions about registration, or navigating through this website, please contact Celeste Orangers (email: co2@nyu.edu; phone: (212) 998-7348) or Sarah Schindele (email: sarah.schindele@nyu.edu; phone: (212) 992-9822).

Helpful Tips

1) Learn how to use Albert.

Print out the University's instructions, "Registering on Albert".

2) Regarding Your PIN Number

Each time you use Albert, you will be asked for your Student ID number and your PIN number. Your Student ID number is your social security number. Your PIN number is a special code you choose for yourself.

The first time you go on to Albert, use your six digit birth date as your PIN number: i.e., someone born on February 9, 1965 would use the pin 020965. If you do this correctly, you'll wind up with a screen in front of you asking you to change your PIN to something only you will remember, just as you would at an ATM machine.

If you receive an error message when you enter your birth date, you must call the University Registrar to reset your PIN. Please call Registration Services at 212-998-4290, and tell them you are an incoming transfer student trying to register on Albert, but you cannot access the system because your PIN is not working.

3) Sign up for your classes

From the Registration menu on Albert, select the Register option. Follow the prompts to add courses. If you are having troubles, refer to the guide listed in Item #1, above.

4) A note about waitlisting

Waitlisting is a somewhat common process among upperclassmen. For those who are Freshmen, however, we discourage waitlisting and we encourage enrolling for 16 credits. Please be advised that as students drop out of a closed course, the Registrar automatically adds those on the Waitlist, and the Bursar automatically charges added students for that course. It is your responsibility to check albert periodically to be sure you aren't registered and charged for more courses than you desire.

5) A note about special permissions and access codes

If Albert prompts you to insert an access code, or locks you out of a course registration because you need permission, you are advised to go to this page, immediately.

6) Print your schedule using Albert. From the REGISTRATION menu, select the Schedule option

Follow the prompts until you arrive at the "Your Schedule" screen. Carefully review your registration selections. If there are ANY mistakes on your schedule, return to the Register option to correct your schedule. Print a copy of your schedule for your records, and email a copy to your adviser.

7) Confirm that you have successfully registered

Email Pat McCreery at pgm3871@nyu.edu to confirm that you have successfully registered.

8) Pay your tuition bill on time, or you will be dropped from your classes

Bookmark the Bursar's website for the latest deadlines for tuition payments. You should contact the Office of the Bursar at (212) 998-2800 to arrange payment. If you do not meet this payment deadline, you will be dropped from your classes.

9) Take note of the following Registration Reminders
  • Be aware that you are academically and financially responsible for ALL registration activity you request via Albert/TorchTone.
  • Registration and services fees are not refundable.
  • If you decide to withdraw from the University, you must drop all of your classes by the date specified in the Undergraduate Registration Calendar in order to receive a 100% refund of tuition.
  • Refer to the Registrar's Calendar for a complete list of important deadlines.
